I love nasturtiums for three reasons: I feel like they were ubiquitous in my childhood, their leaves look like those of water lilies but they're not aquatic, and I find it hysterical to think 'casting nasturtiums' instead of 'casting aspersions' (where is that from? Wodehouse?)
I love irises for being like cerebral orchids - geometric, strange, surpassingly lovely. Plus, 'iris' means 'rainbow' in Greek, and since they're almost entirely white, I feel like there must be a story there - one I'm content to wait to investigate.
