Another 1-pot meal

Looking at apartments this week has made me ravenous (DO YOU SEE WHAT I DID THERE) for a kitchen of my own. In the meantime:

- Chop up an onion, 5 or 6 little carrots (both orange and white, kind of creepy), a handful of baby red onions, rinse and de-stem a few sprigs each thyme and rosemary
- Heat some olive oil and red pepper flakes in a pot, add above + some salt and pepper, stir occasionally and cook til onion begins to soften
- Add about half a bag of Trader Joe's mixed beans and water to cover, cook over medium-low heat til beans are nearly soft
- Chop a bunch of broccoli raab and add to pot with some more water and salt
- Eat with a sandwich of brie on olive ciabatta

Is this meal ravishing, exciting, thrilling, memorable? No. But it is... sensibly attractive. Not a va-va-voom Jessica Rabbit type - a more subtle charm, requiring a certain maturity in the onlooker/consumer.

Other weekend notes:

- THE BERKELEY FARMERS' MARKET. I swoon.
- Two yoga classes, each challenging in their own way. (Lord, I hate the Socratic method, and it is particularly out of place in a yoga class.)
- Good beer and mediocre eggs benedict; good wine and a really interesting pissaladiere tart interpretation.
- Neighbourhood exploring, book-buying, happy anticipatory planning.
- One perfect lie-in.
- Coffee, pastry, sunshine.
- Laundry and Amitav Ghosh.
