On Sunday I had some people over to dinner and it was an excellent way to get rid of the most perishable CSA ingredients, viz:
- 1 head of lettuce, rinsed and torn into pieces
- Kind of a lot of mustard greens and mature spinach, chopped and braised with cumin and onion and garlic and cider vinegar
- White sweet potatoes (ok not particularly perishable), cubed, roasted in a slurry of cinnamon, chili powder, cane syrup, and olive oil
- Cilantro, mixed into a) a pot of black beans flavoured w/ garlic, bay leaves, dried guajillo peppers, oregano, and mandarin zest b) a quick salsa (where the avocado and some of the onion and garlic also went)
- Green onions, sliced into rings
(Line a plate w/ lettuce, add beans and greens and sweet potatoes, garnish w/ salsa and green onions and some crumbled cotija cheese, eat w/ tortilla chips and wanton glee.)
Only non-CSA things were some cherry tomatoes for the salsa, the black beans, various spices, and the cheese. Leftovers also made a fine breakfast topped w/a couple of poached eggs.
Now to think about the remaining produce: kale (maybe this?), carrots, broccoli, some leftover green onions and cilantro. Also have ABSURDLY GOOD leftovers from Mission Chinese Food (which may all on its own be an argument for moving into the city) to factor into these plans.
