Excellent weekend

Totally humane work-from-home policy meant that super early Friday morning I drove to Sacramento to work from my parents' place; at lunchtime we made a pilgrimage to Corti Bros, which is my new favourite place, and picked up all manner of exciting comestibles, including rose petal jam and a huge bone-in pork shoulder.

Friday dinner was mushroom stroganoff & blackberry galette (smeared the crust w/ some of the rose petal jam before tumbling on the berries); Saturday dinner was the pork prepared like so but, if we are honest here, a little undercooked + steamed broccoli and the last of a truly excellent loaf of sourdough; Sunday lunch was soup and salad and an apple galette. There were various episodes of NCIS, salami sandwiches, fried eggs w/ very runny yolks and lots of hot sauce, IPAs, trips to farmers' markets, digging through old photos, laughing at cats, one gym expedition, and a lot of laundry to round out the weekend. It doesn't sound like much, but being able to spend time with family is a pleasure I don't take lightly.

Got back home this afternoon, unloaded the car, fed the cat, and cast around for dinner (less out of being hungry tonight than wanting to have something on hand for lunch tomorrow.) A friend 's inquiry about the recipe reminded me that I had some frozen chicken picked off a buttermilk roast, so pizza w/ chicken, pesto I made last weekend while rendered slightly frenzied by the excess of CSA greens, and a handful of capers it was, plus a salad of roasted broccoli (CSA) and sliced oranges (some CSA) in a dressing of citrus juice, toasted almond oil, sambal oelek, and a splash of soy sauce - found myself fairly hungry, or at least capable of putting myself around a fair portion, after all.

Excitement in store for this week/end: Itching to make some marmalade and strawberry jam; also brought down the remainder of the pork shoulder and plan to... come up with something to do with the meat and then make stock w/ the bone!
