School is good, especially Nutrition Assessment & Monitoring and Infectious Disease Outbreaks. Picking classes was stressful. Riding my bike around is awesome, except for the canyons in the pavement. Riding a bike in a skirt is a little stressful. I love having a public library so close to my house, but damn all the people who are in line for ‘Spook City’ before me. I’m worried that a different ethic might prevail towards talking in class than at UVa, where all the Governor’s School kids and NOVA overacheivers created a cutthroat atmosphere – is it not cool to talk as much as I want to?
The differences between here and DC are interesting. People are, oh, 6,000 times more likely to say hi/call me baby/tell me the story of their life; drivers give me right of way when I don’t deserve it; I cannot find a drycleaner; I have not heard the words ‘security clearance’ since getting here; a million other things that are not currently coming to mind.
