I am DYING for a decent news source. My grandparents get the Sacramento Bee, which has 1.5 interesting local stories and maybe 2 good wire service stories every day*, and watch the local ABC affiliate, which is kind of awful. But it would hardly be appropriate to sequester myself with the computer for long enough to read the Times online.
* Incidentally, I think the New Orleans Times-Picayune is a really good local paper, with excellent wire service selection.
