DC was great

It is also great to be back. It's doing one of the classic rain-all-day New Orleans manoeuvres, and when I first got off the plane I was kind of grumpy (mood not improved by having slept on the plane), and then I just had to laugh and appreciate this absurd, wonderful city.

Anyway, highlights:

1. Wonderful wedding. Congratulations, anonymous friend! I love you.

2. Wonderful exhibit at the Museum of African Art by a modern artist, El Anatsui.  He makes trash (in this case, the tops of tins) into vast metal textiles.


3.  DC was in the throes of spring and my sadly vulgar taste in roses was delighted by these beauties.


4.  OMG OMG I love the dispassionate lucidity of Northern still lifes.  If I ever become an art thief I will specialize in vanity paintings and all things Durer.


5.  I also love quirky perspective.  Look at all that wonderful awkwardness!

In a few hours a dear friend should be here; we will brave the deluge for beer in frosted mugs at Liuzza's; my cup runneth over.
