In which I take a firm stance

against the many paintings available for purchase in New Orleans - particularly in the Quarter - that feature the silhouette of a black man playing the trumpet (perhaps the saxophone) underneath a streetlight.

(Unless, as Kevin points out, any such painting consists of a brilliant reworking of this cliche.  Which sounds impossible but would be wonderful.)
