There's a sweet little entry on
Postsecret France - a Scottish kid writing in to say he studies French and fell in love with it upon reading the line 'Le bonheur ne vient jamais comme on l'a imagine'* - and instead of feeling a thrill of sympathy or enjoying the existence of such tenderness in the world, I think 'Dude, a spelling** and a grammar error in the space of a postcard? Better keep up the studying.'
* Happiness/joy/good luck never comes as one had imagined it.***
** Yes, I know failing to figure out a way to get an accent aigu onto the 'e' in 'imagine' makes me a wretched hypocrite.
*** Pretty damn equivocal, actually. A little more interesting than I first thought.
