Friday night weary and troubled. Saturday morning my mother's voice and absurdly perfect peaches. Saturday afternoon three good conversations with friends. Margaritas and roasted green chilis. 3 fantastic dresses found while tipsily shopping at Goodwill. Strawberry-mint-vodka-lemonade. A poem, a candle. An infectiously good-humoured cover band and a banana-tree-fringed patio. Explaining my love of pop music. Sunday morning Vietnamese iced coffee*. A cocktail pool. Daiquiris and the Mississippi splashing on our feet. People spontaneously lifting their voices in song during the fireworks. The lovely shivery illicit feeling of breaking into public property. How the grass in Congo Square (and o the pressure of history) felt against my wrists. Nighttime invincible bike riding, my wheels describing perfect curves against the pavement. Up way too early on Monday morning. A rainbow. Fragments of French. Managing to not whimper during all the high-up bits of the freeway**. There is a reason the idyllic and the pastoral are linked concepts. Torrents. WWOZ playing Morphine, oh bliss. Feeling properly hungry for the first time in a month. Wire references. Driving home after dark, my car smelling like dampness and fermenting fruit.
* I love it but it might not have been the most sensible thing for me to drink after a few weeks of very little caffeine. Like giving a jalopy jet fuel.
** There were two small children in the car and I didn't want to discomfit them.
