The problem w/ having lots of family members who are federal government employees is that early on the day before Thanksgiving, they will tauntingly send you all their 'Early Release' emails and make you feel like you are the only person left working in the whole U.S.
So here's a list of the awesomeness I am anticipating this four day weekend:
- Pumpkin pancakes and bacon and lots of coffee.
- Yoga every day.
- Roasting a pork butt and putting some of it on pizza w/ caramelized apples.
- Making bread and spicy coleslaw and eating the rest of the pork in coleslaw sandwiches.
- Making my room immaculate and then folding laundry on the bed while watching Law and Order.
- Attacking the 5 books I brought home from the library yesterday.
- Fawning over the cat.
- Choosing my winter knitting project.
- Writing.
Is it weird that so many of my pleasures are solitary? I mean, of course I'm going to do social stuff - Thanksgiving itself, helping a friend move, a show on Saturday night, whatever else presents itself - but there's something about this season that makes me take such joy in withdrawing into myself a bit. I love summer, but summer is a rush - all sweat and sleeping badly and doing what feels right in the moment - fall and winter are for quiet reflection, for conserving energy, for building strength.
