Some observations on heat.

1. Every third conversation I have involves some witty comment on how it’s hot here – am I strong enough? I would come up with zippy rejoinders, but it’s too damn hot. Maybe I’m not strong enough.
2. I keep 3 buckets of water in my apartment – one in the bathroom, for my morning shower (b/c the water doesn’t run in the mornings), and two in the yoga/laundry room, for emergencies. The buckets lose about a fifth of their contents to evaporation every 24 hours. Freaky!
3. The office secretary keeps water glasses in the fridge. I was a little puzzled, b/c we have a cupboard where she keeps plates, coffee, etc. Then recently I decided to be civilized and drink something out of a glass at home – and the glass was actively hot. Enlightenment dawned. (Not that I have gotten around to putting my glasses into the fridge yet.)
4. I really do think it’s making me more irritable. The AC in my office is broken today (and fixing it appears to involve cutting off the power every 5 minutes) and I feel overwhelmed and cranky.
5. My bedroom is air-conditioned, and when I leave it every morning I walk into a wall of heat. The change is so dramatic that it feels like jumping into a swimming pool – like there’s a change in the kind of matter I’m moving through.
