Boom!

So very pretty.

I worked on this 4th, and probably the last one also (was in Bamako), but in 2005 I watched the Mall fireworks from the top of a friend’s building – it’s impossible not to feel a sense of wonder at the snap, crackle, and pop.

The Embassy is putting on some kind of cook-outesque celebration here tomorrow. I was impossibly snotty about going to this kind of thing (the Embassy Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas party, etc.) as a kid, but I find myself looking forward to hot dogs! And possibly yellow cake with thick white icing.
