Yesterday was exquisite and I had just gotten the 3rd book in a (evidently neverending) series from the library and I was biking in a general homeward direction trying to figure out the best outdoor place to read it, when I saw a beautiful thing: a snowball stand. So a strawberry snowball (first of the season!) and my front steps made a perfect little aperitif.
Then I made an enormous frittata w/ blanched beet greens (mistake - they made the whole thing sweet), garlicky mushrooms, caramelized onions (their sweetness magnified by the greens, ick), and sliced boiled small redskinned potatoes and a salad of roasted beets and supremed grapefruit and this buckwheat granola*, which comes pretty close to redeeming buckwheat groats.
* Used flax instead of sunflower seeds, used walnut oil and a mix of cane syrup and maple syrup, added cardamom, skipped the coconut and vanilla, and was a total rebel and mixed and baked it in a glass bowl.
