I mean, I love the carnival round of crawfish, king cake, and random street food (brats from Luke, fried chicken from who knows where, etc.) - but yesterday I had a smoothie with wheat berries and fruit compote for breakfast, and more salad for lunch, and last night I made bread & lentil soup*, and got some preserved kumquats started. And felt intensely glad that I find cooking a pleasure and live in a place where I have access to interesting ingredients and have enough time and money to indulge this hobby.
* Should have put in more curry paste; did not have lime leaves; cooked some collards and blended them in w/ the lentils; and ended up putting a ton of soy sauce in (although I am generally immoderate, salt-wise); it is ok but not mindblowing, I will see if it has improved today. Also, ate it dolloped over basmati rice.
